Throughout the past twenty years, I grew up spending my summers in New York City visiting family and wandering the streets of The Big Apple. Those summer trips began my love for cities.
To this day, my love for cities continue to grow. I love the tall skyscrapers, the sound of taxis filling up the streets, and everything about the city atmosphere. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the south but there is just something about a city that makes one feel so alive. And let me tell you, Chicago is one heck of a city!
This previous weekend I took a girl's trip (aka, a shopping trip) to Chicago with my mom, my sister, my aunt and my cousin. We spent three days in beautiful Chicago shopping and sight-seeing. Having always been a NYC girl; this was my first trip to Chicago. And I can guarantee you that it will not be my last.
Our flight arrived in Chicago at 9am Saturday, giving us plenty of time left in the day. Our day revolved mainly on shopping. Well actually, our whole trip revolved mainly on shopping. Barneys, David Yurman, Tory Burch, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and the list continues.
~ side note: I met the love of my life in Chicago. His name, Christian Louboutin. It was love at first sight.~
On Sunday evening I got the chance to meet up with my friend Nate. Nate and I have known each other for three years now. Nate is a hockey player (ladies, he is single) and we became friends through a mutual friend. Quick background story: my friend, Colton, and Nate were on the same hockey team. Colton and I went to the same high school. One Friday night during my senior year of high school, Colton invited me to hang out with him and some of his teammates. Bada bing, bada boom. As time went on, our lives had to continue on as well. Colton and I went off to college, while Nate went off to continue his hockey career.
Sunday was a special treat because it was the first time Nate and I saw each other in two years! Nate just spent the previous hockey season playing in New York; he is currently training in Chicago for the summer, so it worked out perfectly that we were able to meet up. We walked around the streets of Chicago, had dinner, and caught up on the past two years. It was great, it was wonderful, it could not have gone better.
Monday marked my last full day in Chicago. Once again, shopping and sight-seeing were on the itinerary. There is something about Chicago that allows one to walk up and down the streets and not get bored. One of the first things I noticed was that Chicago is not nearly as crowded with people as NYC is, nor does it have as many billboards as NYC. Life in New York City moves at 80mph. Whereas in Chicago, you travel at your own pace.
If any of my readers plan on making a trip to Chicago sometime in the near future, here are my picks of places to go.
Places to eat: Gino's East (wonderful deep dish pizza), Carmine's
Places for that sweet tooth craving: Ghirardelli's (in an unfortunate event that I were to die, I want my ashes sprinkle there. That place is heaven on Earth)
Places to see: Navy Pier, John Hancock tower, Millennium Park
Places to shop: Michigan Ave. (believe me, you will not be disappointed)
Happy hour: cocktails at The Signature Room on the Ninety-Fifth at the John Hancock Tower
Wishing everyone a wonderful 4th of July weekend! And safe travels for those going near or far for the holiday weekend!
